Spring Reading Program!

The Spring Reading Program at the Kenilworth Public Library begins Monday, March 26th and concludes on Friday, May 11th.   Children who were registered for the Winter 2017 reading club we be preregistered for the Spring session.

Registration is required for the following programs:

Mommy, Daddy & Me, a parent and child at-home reading program for children ages 2 to 5.

I Can Read, a reading program for children who are just starting to read on their own from ages 6 to 8.

Club Readsalot, a reading program for children ages 9 to 12.


Lap Sit for ages 0 to 23 months will be held on the following Tuesdays from 10:30 to 10:50 am: March 27, April 3, 10, 17 & 24 and May 1 & 8.

Toddler Time for 2 year olds will be held on the following Wednesdays from 10:30 to 10:50 am: March 28. April 4, 11, 18 & 25 and May 3 & 10. Stories, puppets and music just right for young listeners will be introduced.

STEAM At The Library for ages 6 to 12 years old will be held on the following Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm: March 28, April 4, 11, 18 & 25 and May 2 & 9.

Children can register for programs focusing on science, technology, engineering, art and math. Each week a different program will be presented.

Create A Story Quilt with Gabrielle Kanterw will be presented on March 28. Children will design and decorate quilting squares which will be assembled to create a permanent story quilt for the library.

Learning About Electricity and Magnetism will be presented by Library Science Center on April 4. Children will explore interactive experiments related to electricity and magnetism.

Adaptations and Environments will be presented by Liberty Science Center on April 11. Children will observe live animals, learn about their natural habitats, then identify specific evolved traits in the animals.Children will participate in interactive activities related to challenges in the environment affecting various animals

Marine Fossil Dig will be presented by John Miller on April 18.

Children will learn about various fossils and participate in a marine fossil dig at the library. Children will take home the fossils they locate.

Build A Dinosaur will be presented by John Miller on April 25.

Children will learn about dinosaurs, build a dinosaur, and recreate a  megalodon , the largest known shark that is now extinct.

Visit Star Lab Planetarium At The Library on May 2.  John Miller, of the Pearl Observatory will invite children to explore the stars inside a portable planetarium .

Children will learn about upcoming astronomical events expected in spring and summer 2018.

Learning About Drones will be presented by Wondergy on May 9.

Children will learn about the technology related to drones, and view a drone in action.

Registration is required for each individual program.

Kenilworth residents may register one week prior to each program.

Out of town residents may register two days prior to each program, space permitting. These programs have been funded by the Ralp Errington Foundation.

PJ Story Time for children ages 3 and up will be held on the following Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:00 pm: March 29, April 5, 12, 19 & 26 and May 3 & 10 . Children are invited to wear their pajamas to this program, and bring along a stuffed animal, too.

Lego At The Library for 4 – 12 year olds will be held on the following Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm: April 6 & 20 and May 4.

Lego at the Library is made possible by donations from the Walmart Local Giving Program and Jackie Fidurski.

Bingo for Young Children will be held on the following Fridays from 3:30 to 4:00pm for children ages 3 and up:  April 13 and May 11. Games may include A-B-C Bingo, Number Bingo and Color & Shape Bingo. Parents must remain in the library during the program.

Bingo for Children Who Can Read will be held on the following Friday from 3:30 to 4:00pm in the Activity Room: April 27. Games may include Book Bingo, USA Bingo, History Bingo and Kenilworth Bingo. Parents do not participate in this program.

Special Event At The Library: NJ Makers Day

It’s a day to celebrate DIY at the Kenilworth Public Library! Stop by on Saturday, March 10 between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm to take part in NJ Makers Day. We’ll have hands-on stations and live demonstrations celebrating the many aspects of maker culture. Last year’s demonstrations included 3D printing, robotics, spinning and weavings, circuitry, and more. Come see what NJ Makers Day is all about!

NJ Makers Day is designed to be a statewide event that celebrates, promotes, and in many cases may introduce maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning. In 2015, the inaugural NJ Makers Day drew over 13,000 individual attendees to 130 participating sites across all 21 counties in the state. Participating locations included public and academic libraries, schools, museums, schools, commercial makerspaces, and AC Moore stores, as well as sponsorship from such organizations as LibraryLinkNJ, littleBits Electronics, and ManufactureNJ.

Registration in not required.  Everyone is welcome.

Learning about Alpacas will be presented at The Kenilworth Public Library on Thursday, April 27 at 6:30pm.

This 45 minute program will be presented by Colin and Joy Scott, owners of Highland Airs Alpaca Ranch.

Children ages 4 and up, and adults will have an opportunity to meet an alpaca from the ranch, and  learn about these beautiful animals.

Registration is required. 

Kenilworth residents may begin to register on Thursday, April 20.

Out of town residents may begin to register on Tuesday., April 25th, space permitting
