Summer Reading Program!
“A Universe of Stories!” has been announced as the theme for the Kenilworth Public Library’s 2019 summer reading program. Registration for the library’s summer reading clubs for children and teens between the ages of 2 and 18 will begin on June 17, 2019.
The first 250 children to register will receive a free summer reading club bag that contains a calendar of events, program fliers and other items of interest to curious young minds.Summer has lots going on for young readers who visit the Kenilworth Public Library between June 24 and August 8, 2019.
In addition to being able to earn free paperback books based on the amount of time spent reading, children who are members of the various reading clubs may participate in the following activities: Monday PJ Storytime (6:30-7 pm) for ages 3 and up, Tuesday Lap Sit (10:30-10:50 am) for newborns through age 2; Wednesday Toddler Time (10:30-10:50 am) for 2 year olds.Visit the library beginning on June 17 to register for reading clubs and these weekly programs.Children must register for the summer reading club in person.

Children must be registered in the summer reading club in order to register for all summer reading club events.

Registration is also required for the following weekly programs:
Bingo for Young Children will be held on Thursday, July 11 (11:00-11: 30 am.) for ages 3 & up.
Bingo for Children Who Can Read will be held on Thursday, July 25 (11:00 – 11:30am).
Craft workshops will be held on Fridays (11 am. to noon) for ages 4 and up on June 28, July 5, 12, 19 & 26 and August 2.

Lego at The Library will be held on Thursdays June 27, July 18 and August 1 this summer at 11:00am-11:30am for children ages 4-12 years old. Children ages 4-9 years old must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Each week children will have an opportunity to build their own creative project based on a weekly theme.
Registration is required.
Kenilworth residents may begin to register one week prior to each session.
Out of town residents may begin to register two days prior to each session, space permitting.

Lego at the Library is made possible through a grant from the Walmart Local Giving program.

Special events to be presented during the month of June:
Registration is required for all special events. Kenilworth residents may begin to register one week prior to each event. Out of town residents may begin to register two days prior to each event, space permitting.

Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures will be presented on Monday, June 24 at 7:00 – 7:45pm for children ages 4 – 12. Nick Jancinto will introduce children and their families to unique and amazing animals.
This program has been funded by The Ralph Errington Foundation.

Learning How to Make Healthy Summer Snacks will be presented on Wednesday, June 26 at 3:30- 4:30pm for children and teens ages 6 – 13.
This workshop will be presented by dietitian, Victoria Coglianese.
Children ages 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in this program.
Each participant will be able to enjoy their healthy snack at the conclusion of this workshop.

Aliens Escape from Earth, an interactive comedy science program will be presented by Sciencetellers
on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 – 7:45pm for ages 4 – 12. Recycled materials will be used during this presentation. This program has been funded by a Recycling Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.

Make Your Own Ooey Gooey Slime and Kinetic Sand will be presented by Mad Science on Friday, June 28 at 11:00 – 12:00pm for ages 4 – 12. Children will explore concepts related to science and the arts as they make their own slime and kinetic sand to take home.
This program has been made possible by funds from the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Special events to be presented during the months of July and August include:
Tinkergarten Special Event PJ Story Time will be presented on Monday, July 8 at 6:30 – 7:00pm by Barbara Wenzel. Children ages 3 and up can register for this unique story time and craft activity incorporating a nature theme.

Conflict Resolution and Writing Workshop will be presented by Behavior Literacy Strategist Sharita Morgan on Wednesday, July 10 at 4:00 – 5:00pm for children entering grades 3 – 6.
This interactive parent child workshop will incorporate role playing, discussions, reading, writing, spelling and editing practice.
Children must be accompanied by an assisting adult.

I See Magic, an interactive comedy magic show presented by Doug Wonder on Thursday, July 11 at 7:00 – 7:45pm for ages 4 – 12. Recycled material will be used during this presentation.
This program has been funded by a Recycling Grant given to The Borough of Kenilworth.

Learning About Miniature Therapy Horses will be presented on Monday, July 15 at 11:00 – 12:00pm by            Megan Coultas from Hope’s Promise. Children ages 4 – 12 will have an opportunity to meet Michaelangelo a miniature therapy horse and learn how these beautiful animals are helping people with physical and developmental challenges. This program has been funded by The Friends of the Kenilworth Public Library.

The Good Tymes String Band will entertain children of all ages on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 – 11:00am.
Foot tapping, knee slapping banjo music & songs for families with children of all ages featuring Raymond Dreitlein, Pete Hauptman and Jay Leipzig.

The Sky’s The Limit will be presented on Thursday, July 18 at 7:00 – 7:45pm by Housel Fitness for children ages 4 – 12. This interactive fitness program will have children on their feet and actively engaged for the entire hour! Recycled materials will be used during this program. This program has been funded by a Recycling Grant given to The Borough of Kenilworth.

The Magic of Chemistry will be presented on Thursday, July 25 at 7:00 – 7:45pm by Lisa Lou from Encore Performing Arts for children ages 4 – 12. This interactive comedy science show will incorporate various scientific concepts using recycled materials.
This program has been funded by a Recycling Grant given to The Borough of Kenilworth.

Signals from Space will be presented on Monday, July 29 at 7:00 – 7:45pm by Wondergy for children ages 4 – 12 years old. This interactive science presentation will provide cutting edge science experiments and activities engaging the entire family. This program has been funded by The Ralph Errington Foundation.

Learning About Wolves will be presented on Thursday, August 1 at 7:00 – 7:45pm by Howling Woods Farm for children ages 4 – 12 years old. Learn how wolves and wolf dogs are affected by environmental damage and litter. Children and their families will meet wolf dogs from Howling Woods Farm.
This program has been funded by a Clean Communities Grant given to The Borough of Kenilworth.

The library will give everyone the chance to celebrate their accomplishments during the Tenth Annual LibraryFest, an open house event scheduled for Thursday, August 8, between the hours of 5:30 and 7:00pm
Participants will enjoy an interactive musical dance party presented by AJS Events.
Children will also receive a special balloon sculpture made just for them by Mark Dolson; marvel at the sleight of hand of magician Francis Menotti, visit with beautiful Paso Fino horses in our parking lot (weather permitting), and receive a special gift from the library. Families attending LibraryFest should anticipate a forty-five-minute time frame for participation in all of the evening’s events and all children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
No registration will be required to attend LibraryFest. LibraryFest has been funded by The Friends Of The Kenilworth Public Library, and a Recycling Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.
