Summer Reading Program

The Kenilworth Public Library building is closed at this time, but there are many virtual programs soon to be available to our community.

Our 2020 summer reading club, Imagine Your Story will offer virtual special events which will be highlighted on the library’s Facebook page: Facebook.com/Kenilworth.public.library.
It is not required to be Facebook user in order to view this information.
The library’s page is open to the public and will provide links to view live programs as they become available.
Participants will be admitted on a first come first served basis after clicking on program links.

It is recommended that participants sign on to a program link 10 minutes prior to the start of each program to enter the virtual waiting room.

 

The Summer Reading Club begins on Monday, June 29 and concludes on Friday, August 14.

The Kenilworth Public Library’s virtual special events include:

 

Pollution Revolution Comedy Magic Show at The Kenilworth Public Library on Monday, June 29 at 1:00 – 1:45 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old and their families.  Professional juggler and magician Ben Lipman will provide an exciting show that teaches children the importance of protecting the environment and simple things they can do every day at home to reduce their trash and carbon footprint.  The show entertains as it educates.  Ben teaches the conservation principles: reduce, reuse, recycle and respect while using his highly polished skills as a professional juggler and magician throughout the show to demonstrate the key points and hold the audience captivated.

This program has been funded by a Clean Communities Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.

 

Learn About Dog Mushing will be presented on Tuesday, June 30 at 1:00 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old and their families. The link to register for this 40 minute program will be available on the library’s Facebook page,  facebook.com/Kenilworth.public.library beginning at 9:00 am on June 30. Registration is on a first come first served basis.
Karen Land, a writer, public speaker, and wilderness advocate, will share her experiences with Iditarod dog mushing.
Land will introduce her two dogs Noggin and Chloe, display her Iditarod dog sled and mushing gear.
Participants are welcome to ask questions through the chat box at the conclusion of this program.
During the talk, a wide range of subjects will be discussed including
the raising and training of sled dogs, the breeds of dogs used in long distance mushing, and the preparations needed to run a 1000-mile dog sled race. Land will also talk extensively about the Iditarod Race itself and tell some of her own stories from the trail.

 

Mad Science weekly workshops will be presented on Thursdays at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old. Each week Mad Science will offer a new STEM related activity with suggestions for activities to be completed at home using materials found in most homes. The workshops begin on Thursday, July 2 and conclude on Thursday August 13.

This program has been funded by the Ralph Errington Foundation.

 

Virtual Magic will be presented by Anthony Salazar on Thursday, July 9 at 2:00 – 2:45 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old.  Amazing magic using recycled materials will entertain both children and their families.

Boogie Woogie Babies will be presented by Tiffany Taylor on Wednesday, July 15 at 10:30 – 11:15 am for babies and toddlers ages 1 – 3 years old. Sing and dance with your baby. This program promotes development of fine motor skills in a fun way while baby and their big person learn simple dance moves and burn a few calories. Registration is on a first come first served basis.

Dragons! Return of The Ice Sorceress will be presented by Sciencetellers on Thursday, July 30 at 2:00 – 2:45 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old.  This online event combines storytelling and science.  Children will listen to a thrilling story about dragons and magic while they view amazing science experiments. Registration is on a first come first served basis.

Unique Creatures will be presented by Larry Apap on Thursday, August 6 at 1:00 – 1:40 pm for children ages 4 – 12 years old.  Get a chance to meet and learn about some of the most interesting animals in the world. Registration is on a first come first served basis.

The staff of the Kenilworth Public Library will also provide virtual weekly programs. These programs will be pre-taped so that everyone is welcome to click on the link that will be provided on the date of the program.

 

Lap Sit with Miss Robin will be presented on Tuesdays at 10:30 – 10:50 am for children 0 – 2 years old beginning on

June 30. Stories, action rhymes and finger plays just right for young listeners will be introduced. 

 

Toddler Time with Miss Robin will be presented on Wednesdays at 10:30 -10:50 am for children ages 2 – 3 years old beginning on Wednesday, July 1. Stories, puppets and music just right for young listeners will be introduced. 

**Note Toddler Time will not be presented on July 15, so please join us for the special event: Boogie Woogie Babies.

 

Story Time with Miss Samantha will be presented on Mondays at 11:00 – 11:30 am and Thursdays at 3:00 – 3:30 pm for children ages 3 – 6 years old beginning on  June 29.

Children will listen to stories from the library’s picture book collection. After listening to the stories, families are welcome to encourage their child to draw pictures based on the stories read.  The pictures can be shared  with our library community on the Kenilworth Public Library’s Facebook page.

 

Crafts with Miss Lori will be presented on Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:00 – 11:30 am for children ages 4 – 8 years old beginning on Wednesday, July 1.  

**The library will be closed on Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday.

Crafts will be demonstrated using household items that can be easily obtained in the home. After viewing the craft video, families are welcome to encourage their child to recreate the craft. Photos of their child’s completed craft can be shared with our library community on the Kenilworth Public Library’s Facebook page.
