Kenilworth Public Library Reopening

We are pleased to announce that the Kenilworth Free Public Library reopened  to the public on Monday, July 27 2020 with limited services and reduced capacity.  The Kenilworth Free Public Library will implement Browse-N-Go hours for Kenilworth library card holders to come in to browse the Library’s collections and check out materials.  Patrons will be required to register for a designated 30-minute time slot.  To register for a session, please call the Library at 908 276-2451.

Capacity and services will be reduced per state guidelines and the Library’s reopening plan.

Curbside Pickup Service, our contact-free pick up service, will remain available via appointment from Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm.


New Browse ‘N -Go Hours:

Monday-Friday 10:00 am -4:30 pm with a 30-minute appointment.  Last appointment is 4:00 pm.


Arrive at the Library:

If you or a member of your household is currently sick or recently felt unwell, and/or visited a hotspot location, please postpone your visit.


Library’s capacity maximums will be limited in accordance with state guidelines and may be adjusted subject to changing circumstances.

Limited to 34 patrons inside the library

  • Circulation Area – 10
  • Adult Room – 8
  • Young Adult Area – 2
  • Picture Book Room – 4-8(8 if all from same household)
  • Junior Room – 10

In the Library:

While we are open for Browse-N-Go, patrons:

  • Please wear masks covering nose and mouth
  • Practice social distancing of six feet from staff and other patrons.
  • Please follow the directional markings on the floor
  • No food/drinks allowed in the Library
  • Must be accompanied by an adult under the age of 10 years old
  • Please sanitize your hands upon entering
  • Make best efforts to limit visits to 30 minutes

The following services are not available during Browse-N-Go:

  • Public Computers in both the Children’s Department and Adult room
  • Printers & Copiers
  • Library Seating
  • Meeting Room
  • Newspaper and Magazine Usage


We continue to offer a robust schedule of programs via Zoom, Facebook and YouTube.  You can continue to access e-Books and research databases via the Library’s website.

Public WiFi:

The public WiFi continues to be available outside the building.  WiFi coverage includes the parking lot in the back of the building and the sidewalk in the front of the building.

Return of Library Materials:

Our book drop is open and items may be returned to the outdoor book drop at any time.

For the safety of patrons and staff, the library has procured a UV ray book sanitizer.  Books, audiobooks and DVDs are placed in the sanitizer before being returned to our shelves.

Pursuant with guidelines set forward by the State of New Jersey, the library reserves the right to close to the public again if mask wearing or social distancing measures are not adhered to, and/or if COVID-19 levels rise within the State, Local, or Federal Government.  Curbside pickup services will remain available during any future closures.

As our Library reopens, we are operating in a new environment and have established guidelines to ensure a safe environment for our patrons and employees.  We would like to thank everyone for making the safety of our community a priority and for your patience during this next phase of re-opening.
